Water Main Leak Detection Survey 5/15/23

Town-wide water main leak detection efforts will be beginning the week of May 15, 2023. Our leak detection program is in an effort to not only conserve water, but also to actively find and repair leaks within our distribution system as a cost savings effort.  To conduct this work, vehicles marked with “Miles Leak Detection” will be in the area. Workers will be wearing bright reflective clothing, tool belts, and large headsets. 

This proactive approach towards searching for and repairing leaks ultimately reduces costs to repair mains, hydrants, valves, and services as finding leaks early often allows for quicker and easier repairs. Allowing leaks to continue without early detection, worsens conditions and increases costs for labor, materials, and property restoration work once leaks are finally repaired. Finding these leaks also helps the DPW save with water production costs, reducing the costs for electricity and chemicals needed to produce that leaking water.
