As a measure to prevent and mitigate the spread of potential COVID-19 exposure and in the interest of the health and well-being of our employees and residents of the Town of Hanover, the Town will be temporarily adjusting some operational procedures at the Transfer Station.  These adjustments are being made in an effort to enhance social distancing practices at the Transfer Station.

Effective, Friday, April 10, 2020, the Transfer Station will only be accepting Household Solid Waste at the main disposal pit area.  Currently, the recycling of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and cans has been temporarily suspended and residents are asked at this time to dispose of these items in the main pit area or hold them at home until these recycling services are reinitiated.  The traditional recycling areas for these items will be closed off until further notice – please do not enter areas that have been coned/closed off.

As of Friday, April 10, 2020, the Transfer Station will also temporarily suspend acceptance of all fee-based items for disposal.  These items include, but are not limited to:

Bulky Items/FurnitureFire ExtinguishersTVs & Other Electronics
Mattresses/BoxspringsUpholstered FurnitureWater Heaters

Additionally, construction and demolition (C&D) material and scrap metal disposal/recycling will be temporarily suspended at this time.  Residents are asked at this time to hold these items at home until these recycling services are reinstated.

Until further notice the Swap Shop will continue to remain closed.  Please do not leave items outside of the shop or on the ground near the Goodwill/Salvation Army donation boxes.

The Transfer Station Office will be closed to the public, but a service table has been set up outside the office and staff will be on hand to allow residents to ask any questions as they relate to these temporary changes.  DPW Staff will maintain six to ten feet of separation from other individuals and all users of the Transfer Station are strongly urged to follow similar distancing guidelines.  Traffic patterns may be adjusted to ensure proper separation of vehicles and individuals at the pit.

Due to the fluidity of the overall COVID-19 crisis, these temporary operational changes are subject to change.  Please be sure to check the Town website regularly for updated news and information as they relate to Town Services at this time.  We ask you to drive safely within the Transfer Station and thank you for your understanding and cooperation with staff and/or volunteers as we work through this serious situation.
