Hanover Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire 11/7/21

384 Cedar Street, Hanover, MA

At approximately 11:30 am on November 7, 2021, the Hanover Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 384 Cedar Street. A 1st Alarm Assignment was dispatched bringing Engine 7, Engine 3, Engine 1, Tower 1, and Ambulance 1 to the scene. First arriving firefighters found smoke showing from a single-family residential structure. Further investigation revealed moderate smoke within the interior of the structure and fire inside the wall. A working fire assignment was requested bringing Rockland Engine 1 to the scene.

Crews used thermal imaging cameras and tools to determine the location and extent of the fire. Once the fire was revealed, it was quickly extinguished. Extensive overhaul and checks of the floors above and below revealed the fire was contained to a single wall on the first floor of the structure behind and adjacent to the fireplace.

The Hanson Fire Department provided station coverage and responded to an emergency medical incident with a Pembroke Ambulance during the incident. The Hanover Police Department and the Hanover Department of Municipal Inspections assisted fire crews on-scene. The Regional Old Colony Communications Center handled multiple calls and communications during the incident.

The fire was determined to be caused by a previous fire in the fireplace that had unknowingly heated combustible building materials behind the chimney mantle.

No injuries were reported.

Initial damage is estimated to be at $75,000.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 2:14 pm.
