Hanover Fire Department Receives Citizens Corps Program Grant 9/28/22

The Hanover Fire Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Citizens Corps Program (CCP) Grant in the amount of $5,000. The funds from this grant will provide enhancement to the Town’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Specifically, funds will provide personal protective equipment to CERT members, medical equipment for emergency management activities as well as emergency power items.

The Citizens Corps Program is a competitive reimbursement-based grant with a goal to assist CERT programs to prepare for all-hazards support of local first responder efforts. The Community Emergency Response Team is a volunteer group of residents trained in basic disaster and emergency response skills. CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood following an event when first responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also take an active role in emergency preparedness projects in the community.

The Hanover Community Emergency Response Team is made up of an active and dedicated group of resident volunteers who are called upon several times a year. CERT members support multiple community events and emergency situations throughout the year including annual public health flu clinics, at elections, and during severe weather events. CERT members are tasked with setting up and staffing Warming and Cooling Centers when necessary and also the Town’s Emergency Shelter if needed. Most recently, Hanover’s CERT members provided critical support to the Town’s COVID-19 Pandemic Response Plan by providing staff at testing and vaccination sites as well as test kit distribution events.

Thank you to Firefighter/Paramedic Jonathan Pelletier for applying for and managing this grant.
