Topical Storm Elsa Spreading Heavy Rain In Parts of Southeast; Tropical Storm Warnings Extend Into the Northeast

Storm Warning

As of Thursday, July 8, 2021, a tropical storm warning is in effect. Tropical Storm force winds likely from Friday morning until Friday afternoon. Residents are urged to shelter in place during the storm. Should the need arise, the community shelter may be opened after the storm.

Tropical Storm Elsa is forecast to track near Block Island and the south coast Friday. The strongest winds should arrive Friday morning and be focused along the coastal waters and near the shoreline, especially on Cape Cod and the Islands. The threat for flooding rain should be greatest across interior southern New England and northeast Massachusetts, where the heaviest rain is expected to fall. Elsa will rapidly exit the region by Friday night.

Town of Hanover Summer Programs

Due to the impending tropical storm, the FACE Summer Enrichment and Hanover Parks and Recreation Programs will be closed on Friday, July 9, 2021. The decision to close was made in collaboration with the Hanover Emergency Management Team in the best interest of safety for our students and families.

Power Outages and Downed Lines

Report your power outage to National Grid at 800-465-1212.  If you see downed wires, call 911 and report the location.  Stay away from all downed utility wires and assume that they are energized.
