Town of Hanover COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing Site to Close on August 12, 2022

COVID-19 PCR Testing

The Town of Hanover Drive-Thru PCR Testing site, currently held at the Sylvester School building, is scheduled to close on August 12, 2022. For additional guidance and testing information, please visit mass.gov/covid-19-testing or visit hanover-ma.gov/covid-19.

Soon after the onset of COVID-19, when declarations, closures, and uncertainty plagued our nation, the Town of Hanover took steps to meet the ongoing challenges of the pandemic head-on by leading the way in a newly developed Mobile Integrated Health Program. A comprehensive, robust, and innovative COVID-19 response plan was created with the goal of keeping the community safe. This endeavor was developed and implemented by (former) Hanover Fire Chief Jeffrey Blanchard, Deputy Chief (now Chief) Jason Cavallaro, and Captain (now Deputy Chief) Fred Freeman, who was honored with the Profile in Courage Award by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library for his efforts.

The Town’s COVID-19 testing program, a collaborative effort between nearly every Town department, including the Hanover Public Health Office, Fire Department, Community Services Department, School Department, and Visiting Nurse, was one of many initiatives developed to serve residents and the community. Nearly 30,000 PCR tests were administered by the Hanover Fire Department from May 2020 through August 2022. This cutting-edge program included rapid and pooled testing within Hanover schools as well as an all-inclusive contact tracing plan and follow-up care.

The Town took advantage of local, state, federal, and private grant opportunities made possible by the Plymouth County Commissioners Office and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. These efforts allowed our testing program to continue and grow with minimal impact on Hanover taxpayers.

The Town will continue to provide COVID-19 at-home self-test kits to residents while supplies last. Residents who need an at-home test kit may find them at the following locations:

Residents who have specific needs or questions may contact the Hanover Visiting Nurse Office, at 781-826-5000, ext. 1086.
