Hot Weather Expected on July 27th and July 28th

The scorching summer heat is upon us, and it is important to stay cool and comfortable during these soaring temperatures. The Town of Hanover would like to remind residents of options available during the next few days for anyone looking to get a break from the upcoming heat. Whether you're a family seeking a cool space to bond, a senior looking for respite, or anyone needing relief, our cooling centers are open to all community members. If anyone needs assistance, has questions, or is concerned about the well-being of a fellow resident, don't hesitate to get in touch with Hanover's Town Manager at 339-214-5303 (call/text) or send a message to joseph.colangelo@hanover-ma.gov. For all emergencies, call 911.

Cooling Locations

John Curtis Free Public Library (534 Hanover Street) Hours:

  • Thursday, July 27th, from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm
  • Friday, July 28th, from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm

Hanover Council on Aging (665 Center Street) Hours:

  • Thursday, July 27th, from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm

Safety Tips

Remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Pet Safety

With high temperatures, please leave your dogs and pets at home, where it is nice and cool, whenever possible. Don’t bring them out in your cars or take them for walks. Remember that the inside of a car can heat up to well over 100 °F in just a few moments, even with the windows cracked, when it's this hot out. Pets can suffer needlessly and could die when left in a car, even on a moderately hot day.
