Become a Skywarn Storm Spotter 3/16/22

Sign up to help our community during hazardous weather events

SKYWARNAre you interested in helping our community during times of hazardous weather? Do you want to simply learn more about weather?

The Town of Hanover and the Hanover Emergency Management Agency are taking strides to further protect the community from the effects of hazardous weather. One way you can help is by becoming a SKYWARNTM Storm Spotter. Storm Spotters are part of the ranks of citizens who form the Nation’s first line of defense against dangerous weather and also provide important information to the National Weather Service (NWS) warning forecasters who make critical decisions. Spotters play a critical role because they can see things that radar and other technological tools cannot, and this ground truth is critical in helping the NWS perform its primary mission to saves lives and property.

The NWS in Taunton conducts Storm Spotter training sessions each year to help prepare for the upcoming severe weather season. These sessions are free and open to anyone interested in learning about hazardous weather and the role of a spotter. This virtual training is approximately 1.5 hours in length and concludes with a 20 question quiz for those interested in becoming an official SKYWARNTM Spotter.

If you are interested in becoming an official SKYWARNTM Spotter or if you simply would like to learn more about weather, don’t miss this opportunity.
