Will the field space still accommodate youth sports?

It is possible that some youth sports would have to be relocated, given the space constraints of this design proposal. Approximately two acres of field space, currently in poor condition, is converted in the design proposal to managed meadow, reducing mowing maintenance for the Department of Public Works. An approximately one-acre flexible playing field is retained between Center Elementary School and the managed meadow. The full-sized baseball field remains and the outfield (approximately 1.75 acres) is maintained as a multi-purpose playing field for youth football, lacrosse, and soccer.

Because of the environmental conditions, the limited resources for intensive routine maintenance, and the absence of irrigation on this site, high-quality sports fields–particularly for high-impact sports–may be an incompatible use for this particular site, despite being the sole multi-purpose field with lights in town.
