Winter Storm Elliott Update 12/24/22

The Town of Hanover’s Emergency Management Team continues to evaluate the impacts of Winter Storm Elliott which caused a significant number of issues throughout the community between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm on December 23, 2022.

The latest report from National Grid is that 289 National Grid customers within the community remain without electricity. This represents 4.64% of the Town, down from 15% at 8:00 pm last night.

There are still several streets or neighborhoods that remain closed or blocked off due to trees and/or electrical lines. We are unable to open these roads up until National Grid removes the wires and deems them safe. Hanover Department of Public Works crews are working hard to remove trees and other debris as quickly as possible once given the all clear.

In order to make certain repairs, National Grid may need to de-energize certain areas of Town during the work.

The Town has been assigned a liaison with National Grid and our Emergency Management Agency is in regular contact with them. Additional crews have been assigned to the area and will continue with restoration efforts during daylight hours.

If you see a low or downed electrical wire, assume it is live and stay away. If there is no yellow fire or police caution tape or traffic cones/barrels around the area, please call 911 to report it.

If your home is without power, be sure to call National Grid to report your outage at 800-465-1212 to ensure your location is in their system.

If you need to contact the Town’s Wiring Inspector to inspect work prior to National Grid restoring power to your house service, please call 781-826-5000, ext. 1009, and leave a voicemail. Your call will be returned.

If you are using a generator, please make sure it is positioned far enough from the structure to prevent the exhaust from causing an increase in carbon monoxide your home. If your carbon monoxide alarm activates, evacuate the home and call 911.

We continue to ask that family, friends, and neighbors make a point to check in with each other, especially with those in the community who are most vulnerable.
