Town of Hanover Receives Winter Storm Reimbursement 11/16/22

Winter Storm Kenan

The Town of Hanover has received $158,703 in reimbursement for emergency protective measures taken during the Blizzard of 2022, otherwise known as Winter Storm Kenan which occurred in January of 2022.

On April 18, 2022, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts received a Major Disaster Declaration for several areas including Plymouth County for the January 28-29, 2022 storm. The declaration activated the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s Public Assistance Program, making federal funding available for local governments for eligible disaster-related costs as a direct result of the storm.

The Public Assistance Program is a voluntary program for eligible municipalities to take advantage of and involves a significant amount of document and information preparation for submittal to FEMA. Hanover Fire/Emergency Management Agency coordinated this effort as required by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and FEMA. Approved reimbursement represents seventy-five percent of the total allowable costs of Hanover’s response to Winter Storm Kenan which includes snow and ice removal by the Department of Public Works as well as protective measures taken by the Hanover Fire and Police Departments.

Thank you to Hanover Fire Department Executive Assistant Nicole Poznauskis for spearheading this effort.
