The Town of Hanover is pleased to announce it has been awarded $50,000 through the Safer Schools and Communities Initiative Grant. Hanover was among 42 school districts in the Commonwealth to be selected for this highly competitive program offered jointly by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Education. Funds from this award will be used to strengthen security infrastructure and enhance school safety within the community, specifically at Cedar Elementary School. This grant award results from a collaborative effort between Hanover Public Schools, Hanover DPW/Facilities, the Hanover Fire Department/Emergency Management Agency, and the Hanover Police Department.

Hanover continually seeks ways to strengthen the security infrastructure at municipal buildings. The enhancement of school safety has been a top priority for many years. This grant award will be used, in addition to funds already appropriated through Town Meeting, to make necessary and important safety and security upgrades to Cedar Elementary School. This $50,000 award is the maximum allowed within the grant program parameters for a single school building. The funds allow for additional improvements with no direct impact on the local taxpayers of Hanover.
