Town of Hanover 2023 Census 5/17/23

Census 2023

The Annual Town Census was mailed to all Hanover households in early January.

All residents should review the information on the form, make any changes if necessary, and sign and return the form by Friday, May 26, 2023.

Be sure to check the mail that you have been meaning to go through! If there are no changes to your town census, you may use our Town Census online form. Household members who are temporarily living away from home (college students, members of the military services, etc.) should not be removed from the census if they plan to use Hanover as their voting address.

If you did not receive a town census form or are new to the Town of Hanover, you may download a blank form online and return it to the Hanover Town Hall by Friday, May 26, 2023.

The Annual Town Census is important for many reasons:

  • Census figures are used to determine grants and to receive state and federal reimbursements.
  • The census establishes legal residence for voting privileges and town benefits.
  • The census is the vehicle by which annual street lists are printed for distribution to police, fire, and emergency personnel.
  • Filing a census may provide you with proof of residency for a number of legal requirements, such as in-state tuition at state colleges, housing benefits, veterans benefits, and insurance benefits.
  • School enrollments are based on the town census.
  • Be sure that your household phone number is listed on the census. Your number will only be used for emergency purposes.
  • Any registered voters in a household that fail to complete an annual census will lose their "active voter" status, which will result in you experiencing unnecessary delays at the polls.

We need to be sure your family is counted. The Town of Hanover will be doing a mass inactivation at the end of the month. If you haven’t submitted your 2023 census by Friday, May 26, 2023, and you are a registered voter, your voter status will change to INACTIVE!
