Hanover Eagle Scout Constructs Revolutionary War Monument 1/3/24

Nathaniel Winnie Eagle Scout Project

Nathaniel Winnie, Jr., who lives in Hanover with his parents, Jennifer and Nathaniel, and South Shore Technical High School junior, completed his Eagle Scout Service Project - a Revolutionary War Monument, proudly standing next to the in Hanover's historic Stetson House. The stone was presented to Town officials on January 2, 2024. Nathaniel will be officially awarded the title Eagle Scout during a ceremony on January 6, 2024.

Through his own diligent research, Winnie discovered that nearly 200 Hanoverians fought in the Revolutionary War. Nathaniel presented his findings and idea for the stone to Hanover's Historical Society, Historical Commission, and Town Manager.

Swenson Stone Works of Hanover generously donated the blue stone for the monument. Its inscription, skillfully crafted by Rocco Canale of M&R Engraving in Quincy, pays homage to those who fought for our liberty and independence: ‘For those in Hanover who fought in the Revolution, you shall not be forgotten.’

Under Nathaniel's leadership, Hanover BSA Troop 38 played an important role in the project, aiding in the excavation and placement of the irregularly shaped stone, a deliberate choice to symbolize the turbulent time of the revolution. This monument serves as a great new asset for Hanover and exemplifies Nathaniel's ability to lead and manage a project, a testament to achieving the highest rank in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Hanover community extends special thanks and congratulations to Nathaniel for his dedication, ensuring the enduring legacy of those who fought for freedom is honored and remembered.
