Transfer Station
Hanover's Transfer Station, located at 118 Rockland Street, Hanover, MA 02339, offers waste and recycling operations to all Hanover residents. Each year, the facility processes approximately 4,700 tons of waste, which is sent to the Southeastern Massachusetts Resource Recovery Facility, and 1,700 tons of recyclables, which are distributed to various vendors.

All vehicles must display a Hanover Transfer Station permit sticker to enter the Hanover Transfer Station facility. No exceptions will be made. This update is part of the FY27 fee-based system to improve service. Transfer Station permits and fee schedules are updated annually by the Select Board.

    Holiday Closures

    The Department of Public Works, including the Transfer Station and Ames Way Brush and Compost Pile, will be closed in observance of the following holidays: New Year’s Day; Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Presidents’ Day (Washington’s Birthday); Easter; Patriots’ Day; Memorial Day; Juneteenth; Independence Day; Labor Day; Columbus Day; Veterans Day; Thanksgiving Day; and Christmas Day.

      Ames Way Brush and Compost Pile

      When entering Ames Way from Winter Street, please proceed to the end of the road, past the Public Works facilities and fuel pumps, and enter through the main gates.

      • Weekdays from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
      • Additional hours are available on Saturdays, April 1st to December 1st, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
