Independence Day 2026 Observance 6/30/26

Independence Day

In observance of Independence Day, Hanover Town offices, including Town Hall, Department of Public Works, Council on Aging, and the John Curtis Free Library, will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026.

You can use our Town Department Directory for contact information if you need help during this time.

GATRA transportation services will not be operating on Friday, July 3rd. Services will resume on Monday, July 6th.

Transfer Station and Permit Sales

The Hanover Transfer Station and Ames Way Brush Pile will be open on Friday, July 3rd, and Sunday, July 5th, during normal hours, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. 

A valid permit will be required to access the Transfer Station starting on July 1st. Learn more about how to purchase your permit/sticker. 

Residents who have not yet purchased their FY27 Transfer Station Permit may do so during the following special holiday hours at Hanover Town Hall, 550 Hanover Street:

  • Friday, July 3rd, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Sunday, July 5th, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

These extended hours are being offered to provide additional opportunities for residents to purchase their permit before visiting the Transfer Station.

With a stretch of very hot weather expected over the upcoming July holiday week, the Town of Hanover is reminding everyone to stay cool, stay hydrated, and look out for one another, especially our neighbors and friends. Celebrations and Events

As you celebrate Independence Day, please remember that all consumer fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts, including those legally purchased in another state. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional public display. In the event of an emergency, dial 911 immediately.
