Massachusetts Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit Information 1/30/26

The Town of Hanover Assessing Department would like you to be aware of the Massachusetts Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit. If you’re 65 or older (as of January 1, 2026), this is for you, or someone you care about. 

Massachusetts offers a Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit that many seniors don’t realize they qualify for. If you paid rent or property taxes on your primary home, you may be eligible for a refundable tax credit of up to $2,820, even if you don’t usually owe taxes or don’t think you need to file.

Filing your taxes could put real money back in your pocket. Please spread the word to parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends who may not be aware of this benefit. A few minutes could make a big difference.
