Hanover Energy Choice to Provide 30 Months of Stable Electricity Supply Prices Starting in May 2025
The Town of Hanover is amped to announce the May 2025 launch of Hanover Energy Choice, a new group electricity buying program!
The Town signed a contract with Gridwealth Electric that will provide savings compared to National Grid’s residential and commercial prices at launch and 30 months of stable electricity supply prices until November 2027.
Hanover Energy Choice participants will automatically receive an electricity supply price of 13.107 ¢/kWh, which is more than 10% below National Grid’s current residential supply price of 14.672 ¢/kWh and also below National Grid’s commercial price of 13.409 ¢/kWh.
Two additional program options will be available by request, both with prices below National Grid’s current residential price. Participants can choose to receive a total of 47% of their electricity from renewable sources in the New England region (27% MA Class I RECs required by state law plus an additional 20% added by Hanover) for 13.897 ¢/kWh or to receive 100% of their electricity from renewable sources for 14.300 ¢/kWh.
National Grid’s prices are in effect through July 31st. Future prices are unknown, so savings beyond July 31st cannot be guaranteed.
Hanover Town Manager Joe Colangelo remarked, “Hanover Energy Choice is an exciting opportunity to enhance affordability for Hanover residents and businesses and, most importantly, hedge against unexpected price spikes as our rates are locked in and stabilized for the next 30 months.”
Vanessa O'Connor, Select Board Chair, commented, "Providing residents with the option to choose up to 100% of their electricity supply from renewable energy sources is important to the Select Board and the residents and business owners of Hanover. By supporting a sustainable energy supply option within the Hanover Energy Choice program, residents can reduce greenhouse emissions, combat climate change, and improve public health.”
Like all similar programs across the state and in accordance with state law, Hanover Energy Choice will use an automatic enrollment model, though participation will not be required. Electricity accounts with National Grid’s Basic Service, meaning accounts that do not have a private electricity supply contract, will be eligible for automatic enrollment in Hanover Energy Choice in May.
Eligible account holders will receive a notification by mail in March but can choose to opt-out if they do not wish to participate. Electricity accounts with a private electricity supply contract will not be eligible for automatic enrollment but can enroll in Hanover Energy Choice by request.
The firm of MassPowerChoice is assisting the town in the development and implementation of the program. Paul Gromer, CEO of MassPowerChoice, said, "MassPowerChoice is delighted to support Hanover in launching and operating Hanover Energy Choice. Our role is to provide support behind the scenes to keep the program running smoothly for the town, and our customer support team is ready to help address any questions or concerns."
Program details will be available in the next few weeks on the program website HanoverEnergyChoice.com or contact Hanover Town Manager Joe Colangelo at [email protected] or 339-214-5303.
The Town will host public information sessions where Hanover residents and business owners will be welcome to attend, ask questions, and get answers.
