Extreme Heat Warning 6/29/26

Extreme Heat Warning

It looks like summer is really showing up! With a stretch of very hot weather expected over the upcoming July holiday week, the Town of Hanover is reminding everyone to stay cool, stay hydrated, and look out for one another, especially our neighbors and friends.

If your home isn't air-conditioned or you just want to get out of the heat for a while, stop by the John Curtis Free Library (534 Hanover Street) or the Hanover Council on Aging (665 Center Street) during regular business hours. Both are air-conditioned and are great places to cool off, relax, and take a break from the heat.

If you need assistance, have questions, or are worried about a friend or neighbor, contact Hanover Town Manager Joe Colangelo at 339-214-5303 (call or text) or email [email protected]. For emergencies or heat-related medical issues, call 911 immediately.

Visit Hanover's Summer Weather Preparedness page for information on staying safe during extreme heat and severe summer weather.

Beat the Heat

Here are a few easy ways to stay safe:

  • Drink lots of water throughout the day.
  • Stay inside air-conditioned buildings whenever you can.
  • Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day.
  • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes.
  • If you're working or exercising outside, take frequent breaks in the shade.
  • Check in on older relatives, neighbors, and anyone who may need a little extra help.

Don't Forget Your Pets

Our pets feel the heat too! Keep them indoors when possible, make sure they have plenty of fresh water, and never leave them in a parked car, even for a few minutes. Cars heat up incredibly fast and can quickly become dangerous.

Weather Conditions

Check current weather conditions anytime using the Town's live weather station at Hanover Fire Headquarters.

Stay cool, drink plenty of water, and have a safe and fun Fourth of July week!
