Notary Services

There are several notaries located in Town Hall.  They are located in the Town Clerk’s Office, Licensing/Passport Office, Selectmen's Office, Tax Collector's Office, Conservation Office, Planning Board Office and Board of Health Office.

Documents needing notarizing should not be signed until the notary reviews the complete document and checks the photo ID of the person needing the notarization. This is a complimentary service.

Please note that Chapter 222 section 17(e) of MA General Laws reads as follows:

A notary public who is not an attorney licensed to practice law in the commonwealth shall not conduct a real estate closing and shall not act as a real estate closing agent; provided, however, that a notary public who is employed by an attorney so licensed may notarize a document in conjunction with a real estate closing conducted by the attorney and a notary public who is employed by a lender may notarize a document in conjunction with the closing of such lender's real estate loans.

If your schedule is tight and you want to make sure a notary is available, don’t hesitate to call the Town Clerk's Office to make an appointment.  An appointment is also advisable if you are bringing witnesses with you and have several schedules to juggle.
