Why do you need athletic field lighting? I don’t think the usage supports the need.

Forge Pond Park is the premier athletic complex in Town and in the area. The field usage, specifically at baseball and softball fields, has grown significantly since the complex was envisioned and first opened.

The entirety of the youth and adult softball programs (outside high school programs) calls Forge Pond Park home. This includes youth softball from kindergarten through 8th grade and also includes a growing men’s and women’s adult in-town softball program.

A large portion of the youth baseball programs call Forge Pond Park home. While there are other baseball fields throughout Town, the need to increase field availability is critical due to the participation levels.

The ability to utilize baseball and softball fields in the evening will provide a better playing experience for players as well as making it possible to establish a more sustainable schedule for grass-use fields moving into the future. The addition of lights will take pressure off scheduling demands and allow for additional activity to take place during otherwise “off hours.” For example, field availability is reduced as a result of the popular Food Truck Tuesday event held at Forge Pond Park. This is due to the parking and traffic issues created as a result of having too many events occurring at the same time. To accommodate the event, baseball and softball programs have a limited schedule on those same nights.
