Chief Blanchard Announces Retirement from the Hanover Fire Department

The Town of Hanover would like to acknowledge Hanover Fire Chief Jeffrey Blanchard’s decision to retire on December 31, 2021.

Chief Blanchard, born and raised in Hanover, has served the Hanover Fire Department for over 43 years. He started his career as a volunteer firefighter in 1978, became a full-time firefighter/EMT in 1985, lieutenant in 1989, captain in 1993, deputy chief in 2006, and sworn in as Hanover Fire Chief in 2011. Chief Blanchard continued a legacy set by his father and brother, both of whom also served the Town of Hanover as Fire Chief.

In addition to his responsibilities as Fire Chief, Chief Blanchard also serves as Hanover’s Emergency Management Director. Among the countless emergency situations he has managed, including storms, blizzards, and hurricanes, Chief Blanchard led Hanover’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks to Chief Blanchard’s leadership, Hanover implemented a mobile integrated health program, which continues to provide daily testing and contact tracing for the Hanover community and public schools. This is just one example of Hanover’s innovative and proactive response to the pandemic, symbolizing Chief Blanchard’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

The Town of Hanover would like to congratulate Chief Jeffrey Blanchard, his wife Angela, and sons, Andrew and Matthew on their dedication to the Hanover Fire Department and the Town of Hanover.

The Town will formally honor Chief Blanchard and wish him well as he transitions into the next chapter of his life in the near future.
