Hanover Branch Rail Trail Extension Project Awarded $379,142.00 Grant 6/30/22

Hanover Branch Rail Trail Extension Project
The Town of Hanover is pleased to announce that the Hanover Branch Rail Trail Extension has been awarded a $379,142.00 Grant. The grant was awarded on June 28, 2022, at Wharf Park in Milton, Massachusetts.

MassTrails provides grants to support recreational trail and shared use pathway projects across the Commonwealth. The award maximum depends on the project type and needs and is generally $50,000 for “local” projects and up to $300,000 or more for projects demonstrating critical network connections of regional or statewide significance.
Out of the 167 proposals submitted, the Hanover Branch Rail Trail Extension Project is one of the 81 projects receiving a grant award.
Hanover extends its thanks to the Governor's Inter-Agency Trails Team and the Massachusetts Recreational Trails Advisory Board (MARTAB) who review and recommend Mass Trails grant awards.

With these funds, the Town of Hanover plans to construct a shared-use pathway that extends the Hanover Branch Rail Trail across West Hanover to the Drinkwater River. This project will connect Hanover with the successful shared-use pathway that travels through our neighboring towns of Abington and Rockland. The Hanover Branch Rail Trail is an iconic multi-community project that provides direct pedestrian connections between our historic village centers, commerce centers, school campuses, and local recreation areas located along the rail line. Trail users can expect to experience a quintessential New England journey through the natural beauty of woods, wetlands, historic village centers, and suburban town settings.
Members of the Hanover Open Space Committee, Select Board Member, Steve Louko, the Hanover Department of Public Works, and the many residents who are excited proponents of the Hanover Branch Rail Trail Extension deserve our recognition and gratitude. This project would not be moving forward without their steadfast dedication and support.
