FACE and Parks and Recreation 2020 Summer Programs Closure

May 21, 2020

We hope this message finds your family healthy in body and spirit.  Last week we shared with the community our criteria for operating safe and reliable summer programs by the Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) and the Hanover Parks and Recreation Department. After reviewing the phased reopening plan for Massachusetts, and considerable thought and evaluation, we have made the collaborative decision to cancel both FACE and Parks and Recreation programs for this summer.

The expectation for safe, sustainable, and high quality programs remains our top priority as does the health and safety of our students, families, staff, and community at large.  At this time, the risks of operation exceed our confidence to meet those expectations.

As community organizations, we recognize these programs provide vital child care resources as well as extended learning opportunities and positive peer interaction for students of all ages.  We share your disappointment for the loss of an authentic summer experience for our kids. We appreciate your continued support during these challenging circumstances and look forward to the future and the summer of 2021.

If you have any questions, please contact the FACE or Hanover Parks and Recreation directors respectively.

Sincerely,

Matthew Ferron, Superintendent of Schools
Joe Colangelo, Town Manager
Tammy Murray, Community Services Director
Kelly Lawrence, Office of Family & Community Engagement Director, klawrence@hanoverschools.org
