Blood Drive in Memory of Matthew Westfield

Event Date:
Wednesday, June 1, 2022 - 8:00am to 2:00pm

The Massachusetts General Hospital Blood Mobile will be hosting a blood drive in honor of Matthew Westfield at the Hanover Town Hall on June 1, 2022, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This is your opportunity to donate blood and make a difference.

Your Donation Makes a Difference

When an organ becomes available for transplant, there also has to be enough blood available. That is why patients depend on people donating on a regular basis – before things happen! Each year, more than 15,000 children under the age of 18 are diagnosed with cancer. These young patients depend on lifesaving transfusions. MGH has performed over 3,000 kidney transplants! Having an adequate supply of blood available helped to make that a reality! Over 75,000 donors are needed each year to help support their blood needs. Please, join the upcoming blood drive and give others a chance at life!

More About the Blood Drive

The Matthew Westfield Blood Drive in Hanover began 35 years ago at Sylvester School and was started by Peggy Westfield, Matthew's mother and teacher at Hanover Public Schools. Matthew was treated at MGH for leukemia. Two years ago when the pandemic started, the blood drive was unable to be held at the schools. The drive moved has since moved and is now held at the Hanover Town Hall. The community response has been overwhelming and we hope for continued success and participation.
