Interim Changes to Fire Prevention Activities 3/17/20

March 17, 2020

Effective March 17, 2020, at 6:00 pm, the Hanover Fire Department will be changing several processes related to both residential and commercial fire prevention activities.  These changes allow us to meet the needs of the public and maintain commerce while visitor restrictions are in place at Fire Headquarters during the COVID-19 emergency.

Residential Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Inspections

To the extent possible, it is the intention of the Hanover Fire Department to continue conducting residential smoke and carbon monoxide inspections for existing or new properties.  The process for scheduling an inspection is as follows:

  1. Applicants should CALL Fire Headquarters, 781-826-3151, and press OPTION 7.
  2. Information will be taken over the phone for the inspection address.
    • Applicants are asked to leave a message if there is no answer.
  3. The inspection will be scheduled at that time.
    • Inspections will be scheduled on MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, and THURSDAY.
    • Inspections will be scheduled between the hours of 9:00 am and 11:00 am.
    • No more than three (3) inspections will be scheduled on the same day.
  4. On the day and time of inspection, a firefighter will come to the address with the necessary paperwork and complete the inspection. The firefighter will ascertain if anyone is sick in the home before proceeding in. If someone is sick, every attempt will be made to conduct the inspection but it may need to be rescheduled.
  5. A $50.00 fee will be required at that time, via check or cash.
  6. Successful completion will receive proper documentation.

Oil Burner Inspection/Oil Tank Inspections

Unless it is deemed critical, all Oil Burner Inspections and Oil Tank Inspections will be suspended until further notice.  Applications will be received and scheduled at a later date.

Commercial Inspections

Those wishing to have the fire department conduct an inspection at a commercial location shall first make contact with the Fire Prevention Division.  Every attempt will be made to accommodate commercial inspections but applicants must understand that delays or suspension of these inspections may occur based on the ongoing operational needs of the fire department delivering fire and emergency medical services.

All Other Inspections

Every attempt will be made to conduct inspections whenever possible.  Those wishing to apply for a permit or inspection shall first make contact with the Fire Prevention Division.
