Town of Hanover 2021 Annual Town Elections

Elections will be held at Hanover High School, Saturday, May 8, 2021

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Massachusetts Legislature extended some of the mandated voting provisions from 2020 into the 2021 Spring Election season.  Hanover residents who are taking precautions due to COVID-19 are encouraged to vote by mail and avoid in-person contact on Election Day.  This action will help to protect the health of all voters as well as the health of election staff.  Regardless of COVID-19, all residents will be able to vote using one of four methods in the May Annual Town Election as follows:

  1. Vote by Mail - Applications for a Vote by Mail ballot must be received in the office of the Town Clerk before 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.  Ballots are currently available to be mailed.  Voters may track the status of their vote-by-mail ballot at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/wheredoivotema/track/trackmyballot.aspx.
  2. Vote Absentee In-person - Applications for an in-person ballot must be received in the office of the Town Clerk before 12 noon on Friday, May 7, 2021.  Expect long lines, plan to social distance, and wear a mask.  Voters may track the status of their mail-in absentee or in-person absentee ballot at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/wheredoivotema/track/trackmyballot.aspx.
  3. Vote by Emergency Absentee Ballot - Allowable for anyone instructed to self-quarantine beginning after 12 noon on Saturday, May 1, 2021.
  4. Vote on Election Day - Polls will be open at Hanover High School, 287 Cedar Street, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Please download the Vote by Mail Application and mail it to the Town Clerk's Office, 550 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA  02339, email it to the Town Clerk's Office, or drop it in the front door mail slot of Town Hall.  Applications can also be picked up outside the Town Clerk’s Office during Town Hall business hours.  The application MUST include your signature; typed requests or e-mails requesting early ballots without your signature cannot be accepted.  After we confirm that you are a registered voter in Hanover, we will process your request and your ballot will be mailed to you.  Instructions will be enclosed.  Ballots may be returned either by mail or by depositing them in the new secure drop box in front of Town Hall.  Ballots must be returned by the close of polls on Election Day.
