Late Fees for Dog Licenses Temporarily Waived 3/30/20

March 30, 2020

Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced today that late fees for dog licenses will be temporarily waived.  Said late fees would have otherwise gone into effect beginning April 1, 2020.  Instead, the late fees will be waived throughout the duration of the Commonwealth’s “Stay at Home” advisory, and for an additional 14 days thereafter, thereby mirroring the two weeks “lost” at the end of March for so many people.  Right now, the “Stay at Home” advisory expires April 7th, so the fee waiver period will end April 21st.  The regular license fees will still apply; those are listed here:  https://www.hanover-ma.gov/town-clerk/pages/dog-and-kennel-licenses .

“I recognize that the COVID-19 “Stay at Home” advisory in the Commonwealth has made simple transactions like licensing your dog much more challenging for many people.  Further, while the $10 late fee is not a large fee, $10 is a lot of money for a family with a dog and newly unemployed parents,” said Harder-Bernier.  “I hope this small gesture helps to ease the to-do lists and financial burdens for Hanover residents even a little bit”, she continued.
