Hanover Transfer Station

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, temporary operational procedures have been instituted at the Hanover Transfer Station.  Please refer to our Temporary Transfer Station Operational Changes (effective April 10, 2020) update.

The Transfer Station Division operates the Town's waste transfer and recycling operations.  The division's goal is to offer a cost effective means of handling the Town's solid waste needs.  The division sends roughly 4,700 tons of waste per year to the SEMASS waste to energy facility and sends 1,700 tons of recyclables to various vendors.

The transfer station division operates with a staff of three full-time employees and two part-time employees.

Hours of Operation

  • Transfer Station
    The Transfer Station is open Friday through Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (closed Wednesday and Thursday).
  • Ames Way Brush and Compost Pile
    The compost pile is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Transfer Station Permit/Stickers

At this time, Transfer Station Permits/Stickers are only being issued via mail, email, or through online applications.  Upon review and approval by the DPW of your request/application, a Transfer Station Permit/Sticker will be mailed to you.

    • Please send an email to contracts@hanoverdpw.org to request a Transfer Station Sticker/Permit.  Please be sure your email includes the following:
      • Name
      • Phone Number
      • Hanover Residential Address
      • Mailing Address
      • A Scan/Photo of your Vehicle Registration.  If your current vehicle registration does not show a Hanover Address, please also provide a scan/photo of a document that can be used as proof of residency, such as a current tax bill, utility bill, etc.

    • Please send a request for a Transfer Station Permit/Sticker to us at the DPW Administrative Offices (40 Pond Street, Hanover MA 02339).  Please be sure your request includes the following:
      • Name
      • Phone Number
      • Hanover Residential Address
      • Mailing Address
      • A Copy of your Vehicle Registration.  If your current vehicle registration does not show a Hanover Address, please also provide a scan/photo of a document that can be used as proof of residency, such as a current tax bill, utility bill, etc.
