Hanover Fire Department

March 17, 2020

Update 1

  • Effective March 17, 2020, at 6:00 pm, the Hanover Fire Department will restrict visitors to Fire Headquarters.  Accordingly, restrictions will be placed on outside visitors for events such as fire station tours, public education events, and general business.  While we appreciate the ongoing support from the community, we ask that no food items be brought to the fire station during this time.
  • The Hanover Fire Department Fire Prevention Division is working in conjunction with the Hanover Department of Municipal Inspections to continue fire prevention application, permitting and inspection activities.  Changes will be made to the process of applying and obtaining permits for both commercial and residential activities.
  • Any visitor who must come into the fire station will be asked their health status and may not be allowed to come inside.  Whenever possible, business will be conducted at the door.  Any visitor coming to the fire station is asked to maintain appropriate social distancing of 6-feet from the door when interacting with members of the Department.
  • The Hanover Fire Department will continue to conduct blood pressure checks for the public.  Whenever possible, these checks will occur outside.  If a blood pressure check or other walk-in medical emergency comes into the building, firefighters will assess the need to provide a mask for the patient and take appropriate steps necessary to protect themselves and the building from exposure.

Update 2

  • Effective March 17, 2020, at 6:00 pm, the Hanover Fire Department will be changing several processes related to both residential and commercial fire prevention activities.  These changes allow us to meet the needs of the public and maintain commerce while visitor restrictions are in place at Fire Headquarters during the COVID-19 emergency.
  • To the extent possible, it is the intention of the Hanover Fire Department to continue conducting residential smoke and carbon monoxide inspections for existing or new properties. View process.
  • Unless it is deemed critical, all Oil Burner Inspections and Oil Tank Inspections will be suspended until further notice.  Applications will be received and scheduled at a later date.
  • Those wishing to have the fire department conduct an inspection at a commercial location shall first make contact with the Fire Prevention Division.  Every attempt will be made to accommodate commercial inspections but applicants must understand that delays or suspension of these inspections may occur based on the ongoing operational needs of the fire department delivering fire and emergency medical services.
  • Every attempt will be made to conduct inspections whenever possible.  Those wishing to apply for a permit or inspection shall first make contact with the Fire Prevention Division.

  • In accordance with visitor restrictions now in place at local hospitals and to protect the health and safety of our members, it will be the policy of the Hanover Fire Department that family or other persons are not allowed to accompany patients in the ambulance during transportation to the hospital. The only standing exceptions to this policy will be pediatric patients and labor/delivery circumstances.  Other exceptions shall be made at the discretion of the Incident Commander or ambulance crew and should be avoided whenever possible. If a person accompanies a patient in the ambulance, they shall not be allowed to access the Emergency Department via ambulance entrance.  Instead, they shall be directed to the main Emergency Department entrance utilized by walk-in patients. This policy shall remain in place until further notice.
  • Please be advised that, effective immediately, Chief Blanchard has suspended Open Burning in the Town of Hanover.  This suspension is due to both dry weather conditions and our ongoing and dynamic need to prepare and plan for the potential impact the COVID-19 outbreak may have on our community.  It is critical that we keep our first responders available, safe and healthy during these times.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
