New Bandstand Construction Begins
Work on the new bandstand is underway and on schedule. Target date for completion is Spring 2016.
Like its predecessor, built in 1988, the new bandstand will provide a venue for concerts, performances, and ceremonies for many years to come. The nearly maintenance free 30’ x 20’ bandstand will have a poured 10” wall four foot deep foundation. The foundation as well as the 4’ wide handicap ramp will be capped with a 5” deep concrete floor. The truss roof system will be supported by (4) 14 foot long 5” x 5” steel corner posts and (9) 6” x 6” pressure treated beams. Each of the support beams as well as the laminated veneer lumber headers will be covered with cellular PVC boards and moldings.
The engineering for the site plan was donated by Shayne McGlone of McGlone Enterprises Kingston, MA. Ed LeNormand of Chaplin Associates Norwell, MA contributed structure engineering services. Excavation for the foundation, backfill, and fill material is being donated by Stephen and Peter Varrasso owners of Anchor Excavating Corp. Hanover, MA.
All the building plans, carpentry, and electrical work will be completed by the students of South Shore Vocational Technical High School Hanover, MA.
