Water Main Flushing Starts April 22, 2014

PUBLIC NOTICE
WATER MAIN FLUSHING
STARTS APRIL 22, 2014

The Water Division of the DPW will perform seasonal water main flushing starting on April 22, 2014 from 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM and from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, subject to water availability and weather conditions. Check the DPW website at hanoverdpw.org for a schedule of flushing activities.

Routine flushing is required to maintain water quality throughout the distribution system and especially on dead-ends and low flow areas. Flushing is a process by which water is moved through a water pipe at a high velocity so that a scouring action is created. Water is then discharged through a hydrant which in turn removes any material build-up from the pipe. While the hydrants are open in your neighborhood, you may experience discolored water or a small drop in water pressure. In the unlikely event your water service is interrupted or you are experiencing no water pressure please notify the DPW as soon as possible at 781-826-3189.

Should your water appear reddish, yellow or brown, do not be alarmed. It is recommended you do not use the water or do laundry for two hours after noticing this discoloration. After you have waited, run your cold water tap (without the aerator screen) for five to ten minutes. This should remove any sediment from inside your service. If the water does not clear after two hours, please notify the DPW at 781-826-3189.
