MCC Background
The Massachusetts
Cultural Council
Established by the
legislature in 1980, the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) is a state agency
which distributes revenues to arts councils statewide to benefit the arts.
Local Cultural Council
Program
The Local Cultural Council Program, the second largest grant program of the
Massachusetts Cultural Council, is a grassroots complement to the agency's
centralized grant programs.
Allocations are made to all of Massachusetts' 351 cities and towns to support
community cultural activities. The LCC Program is the most extensive system of
its kind in the nation to support arts, sciences and humanities.
2,500 volunteers across the state comprise community boards that review
applications from individuals, schools, and organizations to fund field trips,
after school programs, concerts and festivals. Cultural activities take place in
community centers, elder care facilities, libraries, parks, schools, town halls
- wherever communities come together - to improve resident's lives. LCCs also
review applications for a student ticket subsidy program, called the PASS
Program.

About Us
The Hanover Cultural Council (HCC), a five to 22 member committee
appointed by the selectmen, is a group of interested individuals whose main
purpose is to qualify grant applicants and dispense funds allocated by the MCC
for community-based arts and cultural events that benefit the residents of
Hanover.
With state approval, grant funds are dispensed on a reimbursement basis at the
conclusion of each event.
The HCC Mission is to promote excellence, access, education and diversity in the
arts, humanities and interpretive sciences in the Town. A goal to building
community.
Last year the council received 36 applications from artists, schools and local
groups requesting funds totaling more than $31,000. The council’s FY07 allotment
of $4000 was allocated toward projects which provided the broadest community
impact.
