Volunteer Opportunities
 
The Board of Selectmen and Town Moderator welcome residents who have an interest in serving on the Town’s various Committees/Boards.  Please complete a Talent Bank application and return it to the Selectmen's Office.  The following volunteer opportunities exist:

Affordable Housing Trust Board of Trustees

Board of Selectmen

Composed of seven Trustees,   1 member of Board of Selectmen,1 member of Community Preservation Committee and  5 at large members.   Initial terms are staggered as 1 or 2 year terms.

The Trustees shall meet at least quarterly at such time and place as Trustees shall determine.

Board of Trust Fund Commissioners

Board of Selectmen Composed of three members with terms expiring on a rotating three year basis.  Meetings throughout the year on an as needed basis.

Conservation Commission Town Manager subject to the approval of the Board of Selectmen Composed of five members and two Associate members, each for a term of three years.  The term of one member shall be two years for the duration of that member's term only.   The Commission administers  State and local Wetlands Protection Regulations pertaining to protected resource areas in the Town including permitting, enforcement, education, and care of Open Space parcels. The Commission typically meets twice a month at Town Hall on Wednesday evenings.

Education Fund Committee Board of Selectmen Comprised of the Superintendent of Schools or designee thereof, and four residents of the Town of Hanover. The Committee meets as necessary throughout the year.

Hanover Cultural Council Board of Selectmen This five (5) to twenty two (22) member committee qualifies grant applicants and dispenses funds allocated by the Massachusetts Cultural Council The Committee meets as necessary throughout the year.

Design Review Board

Board of Selectmen Consists of five (5) members each appointed by the Board of Selectmen for a three year term. All members of the Board shall have experience in the professions or trades of architecture, landscape architecture, planning, design, engineering, construction, or other relevant experience. The Committee meets as necessary throughout the year. 1

Planning Board

Elected This Board is charged with administering the approval of Subdivision Plans, Special Permits and Site Plan Approvals in accordance with State statutes and zoning and subdivision regulations. The Board meets twice a month. 1

Sylvester School Redevelopment Committee

Board of Selectmen This Seven Member Committee studies the need and feasibility of potential reuses of the Sylvester School, and presents findings to the Board of Selectmen. The Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Selectmen. The Committee meets as necessary throughout the year.

Taxation Aid Committee

Board of Selectmen

This five member Committee is made up of The Chairman of the Board of Assessors, the Town Treasurer, and three residents.  It oversees the special fund created to assist low income elderly and disabled persons in meeting their property tax obligations.

The committee meets as necessary throughout the year.

Veteran's Memorial Committee

Moderator

This five member committee consists of two members selected by the Board of Selectmen, two members selected by the Town Moderator and one member selected by the Board of Public Works.  It is responsible  for designing and bringing forth costs for the construction of  a Veterans Honor Garden.

The Committee meets as necessary throught the year and must have at least two public forums on the preferred design.
